一、听力目标
直接选择是指问题的答案在对话和短文中可直接找到。这种题目在考试中比较容易得分。通过这个单元的专项训练，要求掌握这种题型，争取在这种题目上不丢分。
二、听前指导
直接选择虽然比较简单，但仍需注意以下几点：
1.直接选择一般是考对话或短文中出现的具体细节，如时间、地点、原因、人物、事件等，即when, where, why, who, what。考试时对话和短文都只念一遍，这要求考生在短时间内接受大量信息。在这种情况下，记笔记特别重要。对于直接选择题来说，记下了与题目相关的重要信息，就等于做对了一个题目。
2.对于题目中的重要信息，不但要听清，还要搞清它的来龙去脉、彼此关系。比如：关于地点，要知道在这个地点发生什么事，或搞清这是某个过程如旅行的起点还是终点等；关于时间，要知道这是干什么事情的时间，各个时间的先后顺序是什么；关于人物，要弄清人物彼此之间的关系等等。特别是对话或短文中同时出现几个时间、地点、人物时间，在题目的选择项里往往把这些信息点都罗列出来，如果只是孤立去听这些信息点，没有全面的了解，就会不知所措，问此答彼。
3. 对于某些发音或拼写相近的单词要特别注意区分。如thirty和thirteen很容易被误听，而pollution, population, solution同时出现在选择项里，也会增加选择难度。
