在口语考试可以使用俚语吗?
文章来源: 文章作者: 发布时间:2006-05-22 字体: [ ]

salajone:Jone,我对美国俚语较为了解,在口语考试可以使用美国俚语吗?或者俚语发音,使用俚语有对考试有什么影响吗?

John:Please see the following thread for a discussion of using slang and idioms in the interview.

stef:hello, john. i 'll take ielts in April and now i'am preparing  for it .When i try to practise my oral english according to the topics in the neworiental book,i find that the part 2 is something diffrent with  the speaking parts in 剑桥2,which  have already given some information for you . whether i have been sopposed to talk as the information such as the name of the book or just tell the interviewer something i familiar with? could you tell me whether  the real test is the same as wang xin ' book ? please write me back soon. Thank you very much .

John:I'm glad you asked this question, because many students are confused about this.

The Speaking Test described in 剑桥2 is no longer in use.  It was replaced by a redesigned test in July of 2001.

We use 剑桥2 in our classes at New Oriental, but not in the spoken class.  剑桥2 is still a great book for the sections we use it for, but it is no longer reflective of the current Speaking Test.

The format of the current Speaking Test is used in 剑桥3, as well as the New Oriental textbook 口语指南.

Let me know if this is unclear.

ohabby1984:Attention,a quick way to get hign score!
a teacher of training centre(he used to be the examiner of IELTS) told us that

we can get high score(over 6`5) easily through using SLANGS and IDIOMS.

Don't try to use very long and difficuls words in order to impress the examiner.

It won't work at all. Long and difficult words make this guy  bookish.

John, is that right?Do u agree with what the teacher said?

Keep practising ur english in 1-2 months.Non-stop.

6`5 is not far from us.

John:I agree with the following sentence: " Don't try to use very long and difficult words in order to impress the examiner."

I think it's misleading, however, to say that using "idioms" and "slang" will help you get a high score on the exam.  In fact, sometimes students try to use to many idioms and end up looking foolish.  It's important to understand the proper colloquial usage of words, but it's more important that you use English that YOU are comfortable with to express your ideas. That's how you get a high score.

(By the way: If your friend was a former examiner, he or she would know that it's impossible to get a 6.5 on the IELTS Speaking Test.  )

bigeyesbebe:i agree with your idea, and i am glad you writting,by the way weathe is a smart way that learn american english if i would participate in ielts examination  ielts examination recently

ohabby1984:By the way: If your friend was a former examiner, he or she would know that it's impossible to get a 6.5 on the IELTS Speaking Test.

I was shocked! what does it mean?  You mean only few students can get a 6.5 on the IELTS Speaking Test? So disappointed!

John:Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough. :)

You can only get whole band scores on the IELTS Speaking Test. So, you could get a 6 or a 7, but not a 6.5.

This is also true for the Writing Test.  On the other hand, it is possible to get half band scores on the listening and reading tests, and your Idontknowl score (the average of the four band scores) may also be a half band score.

Let me know if this still isn't clear.  It can be confusing!

Eileen_kinggirl :John, will you recommend me some books about this aspect?
Talking with a foreigner is a good way to improve our oralEnglish?
will u give me some advice about how to practice spoken English?

John:Eileen, Yes, talking with native speakers is a great way to improve your spoken English, but it's certainly not the only way, and by no means is it enough.  Talking with a Chinese language partner can also be helpful, and you must also spend time practicing on your own: reading, listening, imitating.  Zeal's method of practicing with a tape recorder is also a good one.  You can even use a 复读机 to compare your speaking with that of a native speaker.

I'm not sure exactly what sort of books you're looking for.  Could you be more specific?
