*** A destroyer of the British Royal Navy is now in Shanghai for a five-day friendly visit. The first trip by the destroyer "Liverpool" to the eastern Chinese port is part of an exchange project between China and Britain in the field of national defense. The visiting destroyer carries a crew of 250. During the visit, various activities will be held to support and promote bilateral dialogue in various areas.
*** South Korea, the United States and Japan, are forging a united front in dealing with the standoff over the North Korean nuclear program. A senior official from South Korea's Foreign Affairs-Trade Ministry says the three nations share the same stance regarding ways to prevent the North from aggravating the situation with its nuclear program. He went on to say that the international community will need to take appropriate steps if North Korea does not take positive measures to dismantle its nuclear weapons program.
*** China's bid for the men's singles title was in doubt after two of its top players crashed out of the 47th world table tennis championships in Paris on Saturday. South Korean Joo Se Hyuk chopped his way to the men's singles semifinals by beating Chinese Ma Lin, while Austrian Werner Schlager rallied to eliminate title-defending Wang Liqin. The 22-year-old South Korean, ranked 61st in the world, defended well and attacked aggressively.
