Acting Mayor of Beijing Wang Qishan welcomes the double decisions made by the World Health Organization to lift its travel advisory on Beijing and remove the city from its list of SARS-infected areas. He also appreciates the assistance of WHO experts in Beijing's fight against the disease.
Wang Qishan says the Beijing government will reflect on the experience accumulated from the fight against SARS to better coordinate economic and social development with city management and construction. He adds that rapid response public health systems will soon be established across the city to prevent the spread of SARS and any other contagious disease.
Meanwhile, Vice Minister of Health Gao Qiang says China vows to establish an effective epidemic reporting system that will cover various infectious diseases.
He says under the system the public health departments will timely collect, analyze and report information about any disease that is highly infectious and poses severe danger to human health. A reporting system will also cover measures adopted by the government and its requirement in controlling diseases.
The vice minister stresses that information exchange with the World Health Organization is a very important part of the system, which is a very effective way in controlling epidemic diseases. ***
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan says exchanges and cooperation among China, Russia and India do not target specifically to any other country but to promote mutual understanding and bilateral ties.
The spokesman says China and the two countries share a lot of interests in common such as safeguarding regional peace and security and promoting regional economic development, therefore their cooperation will be helpful for international stability.
Recently, foreign ministers of the three countries exchanged views through international meetings and in addition academic discussions were carried out between the three countries. ***
China's top legislature have opened a meeting in Beijing to discuss six law drafts. Members of the Standing Committee of the Tenth National People's Congress are taking part in the examination and approval of the drafts.
They include laws on residents’identification cards, ports, prevention on radioactive pollutants, transportation safety, executive permission and negotiable securities investment.
*** Hong Kong will promote a series of cultural and entertainment activities for the recovery of its tourism industry and attracting tourists back.
In the coming nine months, a lot of shows will be held in Hong Kong. There will also be large promotions to reinvigorate shopping and consumption.
To win more tourists’ hearts, the Hong Kong Tourism Board will also host a series of international sports and cultural activities.
Hong Kong was lifted from the World Health Organization's list of “affected areas” on June 23rd and recently the number of tourists have increased steadily.
