Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi has made a special investigation tour of a village in central China's Henan Province to assess AIDS control there. She also visited villagers with the disease.
Wu Yi met two AIDS-affected families and encouraged them to be confident in facing the virus.
She says AIDS is a serious health challenge to China and countries around the world.
The State Council，China's cabinet, will carry out a series of policies to strengthen AIDS-prevention work.

More aftershocks have rattled central California in the United States after a powerful earthquake measuring 6 and a half on the Richter scale hit the area.
More than 80 aftershocks registering a magnitude of more than 3 followed the main quake with the biggest one estimated at 4.7.
The primary quake is the US state's strongest earthquake in four years. Residents from San Francisco to Los Angeles were affected.
California's Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger have toured the damaged area and declared a state of emergency.

A university employee in South China's Hunan Province has invented a skyscraper evacuation machine that can help more than one person escape at the same time.
Yan Bin, the inventor, says unlike traditional evacuation structures that are heavy and costly, the new machine can control its speed freely and may even be stopped at any moment.
The invention is currently on display in Changsha, the provincial capital.

World-renowned director Ang Lee recently paid a quiet trip to Shanghai to pick out exterior locations for his new shoot.
The director is inspired by the Hollywood and New Zealand smash Lord of Rings series, and plans to film something similar with Chinese folk stories.
Sources say that the new flick "Duan Bi Shan" (Broken Arm Mountain) is a low-budget film, telling a story between two men.
The director has paid secret visits to several Shanghai resorts like Cheng Huangmiao (old city temple) and Shi Kumen (Stone Warehouse Door).
He is also sorting out screenwriters and investors. According to Lee's brother, who is accompanying him in Shanghai, they have several potential scripts already and are hoping for Beijing investment.
