 China's supercomputer, Shuguang 4000A, a computer that can carry out 11 trillion calculations per second, has been checked upon delivery in Beijing.
This Chinese-made supercomputer took 10th place at the 23rd bi-annual survey of the world's top 500 supercomputer sites, which is compiled twice a year.
The event marks a great leap for China in pc technology and application.
Except for its CPU and a Linux operating system, all the components of the supercomputer were made in China.

A 25-year-old woman has become the first woman to conceive a baby after having her ovary removed and replanted in Brussels.
The woman's ovarian tissue was removed and frozen before she had chemotherapy treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Four months after the ovarian was replanted, it was fully functional.
The woman is now 25 weeks pregnant. Doctors say the child was conceived naturally and is due in October.

US researchers say girls who start to become overweight at the age of 5 are often experienced dieters by the age of 9, but end up putting on extra fat instead of taking it off.
They said their study shows that children and their parents are well aware when they weigh too much, but they do not know the best ways to slim down.
The researchers say in their study of some 150 overweight girls, the heavier girls tended to snack even when they were not hungry.
Researchers suggest that parents should themselves demonstrate healthy patterns of eating and exercise.

A giant panda that appeared perfectly healthy was found to suffer from a gastric ulcer during a recent biomedical checkup in Chengdu, capital of the southwestern Sichuan Province.
It was the first time for scientists to diagnose the disease in the rare species.
Besides the gastric ulcer, the scientists also found ascites in many pandas. They assumed this abnormal accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity of pandas was a result of poor digestive capacity, as the older a panda was, the more fluid it had.
But to the scientists' disappointment, the vaccination presently used for pandas is not effectively protecting them from infectious diseases including murrain, parainfluenza and hepatitis. | |
