The only way to improve the safety on the roads is to give much stricter punishments for driving offences. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
For: (1)drive after drinking, drunk driving, excessive speed, overspeed, pavement, pedestrian, maim/mutilate/cripple, violate/break rules/regulations, observe, traffic accident, run the red light There is no doubt that the car often brings out a man’s worst qualities. People who are normally quiet and pleasant may become ill-mannered, aggressive, rude, wilful and selfish when they are behind a steering wheel. All the frustrations, disappointments and jealousies hidden in their hearts seem to be brought to the surface by the act of driving. (2)forfeit/fine, revoke/suspend licence Nothing should be considered as too severe/strict/stringent/harsh as long as it results in reducing the number of people dying in the traffic accidents. After all, the world is for human beings, not motor-cars. (3)Human are hardy creatures. Some people will test the patience of the policeman. It helps to reinforce the authority of policeman. Persuasion sometimes is useless.
Against: objective factors, roads are narrow and rough, traffic jams, sign, An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. The driving test should be standardized and made far more difficult than it is. All drivers should take the test every three years. The age at which people are allowed to drive any vehicle should be raised to at least 21. All advertising stressing power and performance of cars should be banned.
